APR 14/25 – Deadline to apply for Port of Vancouver Leadership Opportunity

Attention Palmer Grade 10 and 11 Students who are interested on a fantastic Leadership Opportunity  with the Port of Vancouver.  Palmer students have been invited to apply for some of the 10 seats available to receive leadership training and a summer volunteer opportunity, gaining work experience with the potential of earning a $1000 honorarium on completion. See the poster and further information on the bulletin boards at the Palmer Career Centre. Our students who have done this before have gained tremendously!  Leadership Program – Information: 

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Leadership Program provides grade 10 and 11 secondary school students from across the lower mainland the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, develop leadership and communication skills, and meet new friends. 

Through this program, leadership students: 

GAIN hands-on work experience and an understanding of workplace competencies 

BUILD leadership skills through team building activities 

DEVELOP excellent public speaking and presentation skills 

CREATE connections with peers and university student mentors 

EMERGE with increased confidence and greater self-awareness 

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Leadership Program launched in 2004 with just four students. Since then, more than 150 students have participated in the program, which includes applicants from secondary schools across the lower mainland. 

We are pleased to offer this exciting program again this year. The program will select ten high school students and includes an intensive two-day training session on Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 29 from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. These sessions are mandatory to attend. 

Please note that Tuesday, July 1, 2025 (Canada Together) is a mandatory event day for all leadership students and will be a four-hour shift at Canada Place from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 

The deadline to apply is Monday, April 14 by 11:59 p.m. We will be contacting students by e-mail to schedule an interview if selected. The interview dates are Tuesday, April 29 and Wednesday, April 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Students can apply using the QR code on the poster you received. They will be directed to an MS Form to complete. 

Leadership students are required to complete a minimum of 80 volunteer hours through combined training and volunteer work experience opportunities both at community events throughout the lower mainland and Canada Place.
