ELL Dept and Library Collaboration: Supporting Literacy

We would like to highlight a fantastic initiative spearheaded by our ELL department and our librarian. They've teamed up to directly address and improve literacy engagement among our English Language Learners. This collaborative effort is focused on making our library commons a more welcoming and supportive space. They've recognized the importance of providing relevant and accessible resources, and have embarked on a comprehensive process to achieve this.
Here's a glimpse of their collaborative efforts:

Book Reselection: They've initiated a thoughtful reselection of books, carefully curating a collection that caters to the diverse needs and interests of our ELL learners. This ensures our students have access to engaging and appropriate reading materials.

Importance of New Books:
* New and engaging books can spark students' interest in reading and help them develop a love of learning.
* Culturally relevant books can help ELL students feel seen and valued, and can also help them connect with their own cultural backgrounds.
* Books that are at the correct reading level, and that are interesting to the student, are very important.

Student Voice: Recognizing the importance of student input, they've conducted focus groups and distributed surveys to gather valuable feedback. This has allowed our ELL students to share their preferences and perspectives on books, ensuring the library reflects their interests and fosters a love of reading.

This collaborative work is a fantastic example of our school's dedication to focusing on our students and trying new ways to enhance literacy skills.
