Continuing our Journey: Focusing On Diversity in PRIDE
One of the central themes of our work within our community has been around our school goal of connectedness and continuing our journey with Palmer Pride.
The staff and students been working towards fostering a sense of equity, inclusion and DIVERSITY within our school community. We firmly believe that every student deserves to feel valued, respected, and included in all aspects of school life.
The Palmer Truth and Reconciliation team has been working in creating a Palmer Land Acknowledgement for our school community - after receiving feedback from staff and students earlier on in the school year. Our next steps will include in forming a student focus group who will assist in the crafting of our Palmer land acknowledgment.
During our conference day in February, students took in a lesson around diversity, accessibility and equity. During this school wide conference day, students were given an opportunity to consider diversity and accessibility within our community. Students were also asked to consider the experiences of individuals with disabilities and what challenges they might face daily as a part of the Experiencing Equity lesson.
By focusing on DIVERSITY - D in Palmer Pride, we are not only building a stronger sense of community within our school, but also preparing our students to be compassionate and empathetic citizens of the world.
As we move forward, let us continue to prioritize these important values and work together to create an environment where everyone feels welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed.
