Pivoting Within Our Incentive Program- Building Connections Within Our School
Incentive Grade 9 students have a 25-hour volunteer component as part of their program requirements. During Covid, we shifted it so that their hours should primarily be earned helping with Palmer activities and clubs, so hopefully that will build their connection with the school. We have maintained this change and found that it has helped our students connect with one another.
Along with this change, the Incentive department has revised the Incentive Science Fair. Palmer Science Fair is a long running tradition and to help guide the students along, we setup a Science Fair mentoring group, connecting Gr 11 and 12 mentors with the student groups to guide them along the inquiry and learning process. This has helped us stay connected with students during the semester they do not have science class, as well as encourage connection between the grades.
